A-10 Tank Killer Amiga Unboxing, Versions Comparison & Gameplay
When I was a little kid, I played with the neigbour kid in the garden with our toy soldiers and I just got 2 new toy helicopters. A Apache and a Cobra, and we had our fun flying around and shooting the enemy with the spring loaded projectiles. Then his older brother came home and saw us. He told us he has a game on his C-64 with this chopper. I was asking if I can watch him playing it. Next thing I had at home was a C-64 and Gunship! I was hooked for years. Then came the Amiga 500 and Gunship 2000! I was hooked for years again. Then my first PC and Apache Longbow 1&2 - Years again. Now I make missions in DCS World with the Apache, Kiowa and Blackhawk, trying to make a campaign like in Gunship 2000. With all the realism possible. Living a Dream that started when I was about 8 years old :)
I had this ❤
One of the reasons Gunship was go great is it’s an early example of a game giving you things to earn as an incentive to play. I was totally into my rank, getting promoted, earning metals, etc. It added that extra magic touch. What a masterpiece. I copied the game from my friend so I had to memorize the vehicle identification anti pirate step. As far as providing the countersign before landing, all you had to do was come in REALLY hot and basically crash into the friendly base. You didn’t die and could still finish the mission. Don’t tell Microprose! 😊
The 2D graphics of the aircraft have been very good both on the C64 as well as on the Amiga. They have always been fascinating to me. Good game (I have only played the Amiga version) and not to hard to get into the simulation genre for a 12 year old boy back then.
Gud vid 💯💥, i want my Amiga back 😢
Nice to see the true frame rate of games like this back in the day.
Loved that game. The combat was excellent, but landing was so hard.
damn.. this rotor sound, this brings back memories : i spent so much time on this game and on F19 stealth fighter. i even had keyboard overlays to remember all special tricks. The ST is an unforgettable machine.
This game also came out for C64. It was my favourite. I thought that the Amiga version would have much higher frame rate, but as I see, not much. But the graphics are better of course. Cool game, love it.
A 30 year old simulator for planes that are still being used today. Who' would've thought that.
I tried to play Midwinter. It was one of my first PC games, and I don't think I had the patience to learn the controls. I remember it being difficult and unsatisfying, but the central concept and story really piqued my imagination.
Spend days and days paying this game on ma Amigas 500 and 1200.
Grałem w nią, ale na Atari ST ;) Trudno stwierdzić nawet dzisiaj gdzie była ładniejsza grafika
Great memories of playing this - the flight sim that really got me into the genre. I remember the huge book that accompanied it with fact sheets about all the planes, and some kind of backstory about the fighter bomber tournament. The flight sims of those days were both engrossing and not too complicated, it's a shame there isn't an equivalent in modern times - Ace Combat is a bit too arcadey while your detailed sims are just too complicated for people like me.
Unfortunately it was kind of easy to rush towards the enemy HQ. So you need to deliberately avoid that quick win to have more fun.
Ah, I see the good old 3D Construction Kit. With the manual as a VHC tape.
Could you have uploaded that video 30 years earlier? Useful information.
Who bumped the sim frame rate up, prff.
What are the specs for the DOS PC used?
I can't remember which one I used. Possibly 486.
Thanks mister
Thanks, mr. Computer 💾
F29 sur Atari aussi je l'ai aussi ou peut-être F19
I loved the Amiga 500 Fantastic machine
I liked the game back then on my A500. I think it already starts with a real nice selection of planes to choose from. Does anybody know if it runs with higher fps and correct gameplay speed on the A1200 or accelerated Amigas?
You can run it with whdload on the A1200, but there won't be much of an fps increase.
Man this sim was hard, to me.
Kinda makes me feel stupid to have spent the cash back then, and now coughing up again to play project wingman in VR today..
Very good modules from ProTracker !!!
Thanks for sharing.
Played on my CPC 664 and always heard ‘in the army now’ from Status quo. Thx for the review! 🙂
Never had an Amiga in my life, still enjoyed the video. From what I saw, it's a shame that Amiga failed.
Amiga never failed.........., Commodore let Amiga get buried in the emergence of PC's. And the Irony, Amiga Basic being created for Commodore by......... Microsoft.
That is pretty much the music I hear in my head when I program stuff and it works. Man this video really goes hard... ugh... so good.
Yeah, i used some of those on my "great" AmigaBASIC demos ;)
Σοφέ γέροντα, ζωγράφισες (λέλουδα) πάλι!
Really well done, bit of a blast from the past!
Ω!
Great game. In 2024, the sound of the Helicopter rotor still sounds superb
great game, I love it
a true Amiga gem
Loved the game. This and Birds of Prey.
amazing feat of programming
Loved this on my a600 they shud make a vr updated version would b awesome
I also played the sh!t out of this, i loved it. Very immersive.
I have fond memories of me and a buddy of mine playing this on the Sega CD back in the day and to think the company that made it went on to make Tomb Raider which we also played on my Sega Saturn, happy days indeed.
What a awesome video! I have a question for you. May I use few sec for my animated project? :-)
Of course, as long as you provide some source information on screen. For example, something like Source: Mr. Computer. Just because it took me ridiculous amounts of time to make this. :-)
@@MrComputerRetro Thank you! 🙂
Gorgeous game, but I always had trouble when closing on a target, it seemed to disappear under my arc of fire before I could do it much damage. Maybe just me.
Target detection can be a bit odd in this game, but I don't remember experiencing what what you describe. Generally, weapons have a min and max range; maybe you're closing in too fast, passing Rmin?
@@MrComputerRetro I think I would try and be sneaky and stand off from the target, popping up from behind hills or whatever, but in order to lock the target up, I'd need to nose down until it was acquired, which tended to end in a head on charge, and nothing remotely sneaky. :-)
Hehe, I see! It sounds related to the target acquisition problems then.
Towards the end of my amiga 500 years I was buying around 3 mags a month. Just for coverdisks & occasional type ins for Amos or something similar. But by then the content on some of the disks was limited or very brief demos of some game that I wasn't interested in, anyway. And yes, there was full priced offerings on disk but not all of those were something that you could jump straight in with. Looking back, they should have offered more coding content. Just like the majority of the 8bit mags did. Typing in small games/screen tricks/ game cheats made computer magazines more exciting.
This is how a retro review is done! Nice ambience with the setup and a good overview of the game. I have to check out the game some day if it runs on an Amiga 1200.
It runs fine on the A1200 using WHDLoad.
